I, Robot

I, Robot - Movie Poster

I remember seeing this “action” movie and was always under the assumption that this Isaac Asimov’s tale was an action packed one, until I read this wikipedia article. It is now clear that the only Asimov about this movie was the allusion to “Three laws of Robotics”, which are:

  1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
  2. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
  3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

These three laws at the time of Asimov had become so popular that Asimov had given permission to other authors to use them in their science fiction stories. Apparently this movie too has borrowed the same without the Asimov’s robotic spirit which is that robots generally do good for the society.

Not to take anything from this movie I, Robot which was a box-office hit, as much as I think iGoogle will be soon. For those who have not created thier iGoogle page, let me give a primer. Most of us are used to visitng certain portals say Yahoo, Rediff or MSN for our daily information needs.  At these portals, we get all the news neatly categorized and arranged.
However, iGoogle takes this one step forward and allows you to customize the clips as per your interests and needs. So be it NY Times or Reuters news, world clock, GRE word a day or just funny quotes, you get it all, along with what we’ve always known - the Google search.I know critics will say Yahoo was first with ”My Yahoo“. Well, it’s been ages since I tried that, but one thing’s for sure - iGoogle is more usable and maybe with lot more content too. Or to rephrase in the vein of this post, Google’s used the Yahoo laws and made a block-buster out of it.

I would differ from what you are saying…. about the iGoogle thingy. Here is my take, though iGoogle might have reached more people now, unlike MyYahoo which only let you do the same for yahoo services, google has done it more elegantly(!!!) — no

It all started when a company named “Netvibes.com” started this concept and followed by “pageflakes.com” then my many others no to exclude “yahoo pipes” (ram try it out you’ll be amazed to see what you can do with that…) Google was the last one to adopt, but hey they are google so you came to know about it.
