Anyone with a kid and living in US today would immediately reel out all the recent product recalls - all of them toys, all made in China and all covered with lead. Does this mean there will be an end to sourcing from China? I dont think so. Already there are signs that manufacturers are tightening the safeguards as NY Times says here. Will toys made in America sell better? For some time, yes. However the quantities sold thus would be small and finally economics (cheaper toys) will win.

What options does a company have when faced with a huge negative media onslaught. Management lessons from Harvard cite the case of Tylenol as to how it can be done right. Infact I was surprised to see so much of research available only at Harvard Business … Hmmm, must be a big headache for corporates to be caught foot in the mouth and then explain the whole thing as strategy.
Just one last thought - Do you know what kind of paint is used on toys in India? Last I knew, most of our toys come from China …
