Cars

Many things happened in the last few months:

It is funny now to look back as to why I never learned to drive a car in the first place. Maybe because I had my Yamaha bike for so many years. Maybe because I always knew I could when it’s time. Or maybe because it was sheer laziness. Well, to come to America and not drive on these roads would have been sacrilegious. So I got my driving license as soon as I could, and from then on it’s been Enterprise (or Hertz briefly) week after week trying new cars.

And after having driven so many cars, I agree with my buddy Joe that American cars are far superior in their comfort. The thoughtfulness for each small thing in the American cars is amazing. Next to the can/soda holder, there is a place to keep the sauce from your favorite Burger place. When you’ve stopped the car and removed the key, even then the music doesn’t stop till you open the door. The music in the car increases volume as you increase speed (though some non-American cars have this feature, it’s given in most of the American cars)- so in the city roads it is low, while automatically in the Interstate, it is higher. If the windows were down, before you shut the car and removed the key, the window buttons still work -once, to take the windows up. Automatic lights, superior key less entry systems, comfortable seats, very convenient steering - the list is endless.

In every sense of the word, American cars are much better than their Japanese cousins – except for the miles per gallon (not to mention if you are looking for a re-sale value) Now that’s something. For now, I was comfortable in my Chevy Malibu, and for the weekend, we did a long drive to Washington DC and back. While I going I was driving for about 5 hours out of 8 it takes to get there, while the return, I was driving all through.

All about Washington DC … Coming soon … Keep watching this space.
